A little more Home Decor

I am starting to get in the season!  I love that this year's theme for me will be the Deck the Halls colours, paper, and fabric!  I can't wait to continue creating projects for my home with these amazing products!

Today's project seriously took me about 3 minutes to make.  There is no sewing!  Everything is done with adhesive.  I ran two strips of sticky strip around the outside of the candle jar and then ran the fabric around the jar.  I had about 3 inches of over hanging fabric so I ran a line of tape on the end and then folded the end back.  I then took a little tape and secured the end of the fabric onto the jar.  I then fed linen thread through the buttons and attached them with a glue dot or two....and voila, we have a finished project!  How stinking quick and cute is that?  Now I can't take credit for this one.  My fabulous downline (and friend) Andrea came up with this one and shared it our downline meeting.

I'm feeling crafty!

I know like many of you I "craft" a lot.  Now when I stamp or create 3D items or scrapbook pages, I don't always feel like I'm crafting.  I feel like I'm creating.....but for some reason while making this wreath I felt like a kid crafting again.  I had glue all over the place, a mess on the floor, a friend to craft with and lots of different textiles and textures.  It was such a fun craft!  Thank you Tracey for the amazing idea!

Not only was it fun, but it was also inexpensive!  My amazing neighbour had an old boogie board that had broken so we cut out the wreath form from the boogie board (cost: FREE!). Then the majority of the wreath was made with burlap (cost: $2....$2 a yard at Lens Mills!).  The burlap was cut into 4x4 squares.  Then I simply folded them in half in both directions (so it made a square 1/4 the size of the original square).  I then took a screw driver and shoved it into the wreath with some glue on the back.  And I just repeated this about a million times over (ok, slight exaggeration).  

Then the little decorative pieces are simply circles cut out of the Deck the Halls Fabric with the Big Shot.  I cut three circles out, layered them and then put them together with a Deck the Halls buttons.  Aren't they sweet!?!?  I just used a hot glue gun to put these together.

Hot Chocolate Treat Holder

What a great start to our weekend!  It was a PD Day yesterday, so Emma and Mark were home for the day!  We had an AMAZING day with my friend, Linda.  (Yet another amazing woman I have met through Stampin' Up!)  Linda has an OBSESSION (a healthy one though) with horses and has the most beautiful horses I have ever seen.  I'm not a horse person, but when I saw Esther's eyes I fell in love!  Unfortunately, Emma did too!  This could be trouble!  She actually asked if she could just go to the barn with Linda and work....she offered to scoop poop, brush the horses and just be in the barn!  (If you know Emma - she's a doll but hates work - so this is NOT like her!)  We'll see where this leads us!

Today's creation is from my friend Teresa!  Isn't it ADORABLE!  I love love love it and can't wait to make a "version" of this adorable treat package!  I hope you like it!!!  Once I make one, I'll fill you in on some tips and tricks and a pattern:)  

Now, some of you have been asking about videos.  I will still be doing them but I have to be honest with you....I need a new tape for my camera and I just haven't gotten out to get one!  Isn't that lame, I know, but doing errands with the two youngest isn't always fun so I just keep thinking I'll head out and do it sometime soon:)  BUT once I have a tap I should do this in a video:)

Happy Thursday afternoon!  Well, for my American friends, thank you to those of you that let me know the post office was closed today!  GRRR!  The one day I could do the road trip.  I'll keep you posted on the DVD situation here in the next few days.

Rather than just make a little announcement post, I thought I'd share another project with you today!  These are from my good friend Annette.  I love this DSP (it's now retired, but I'm sure all you crafty people out there can sub in other papers to get this desired effect.)  

I do love the card, but these packages are over the TOP!  Check out the adorable pouch on top!  It's the Top Note die made into the little purse handle.  I will be making a ton of these this holiday season...just think, it'll hold chapstick, candies, treats, notes and so much more!  I think Emma will have fun making these too!  I can't wait!  Thanks for the idea Annette.  

And the second package (how clever) is the build a brad case housing some yummy chocolates for me wrapped in the matching DSP.  Truly this would be a quick process, but has a WOW effect!

One of those days.....

Let me begin my post by apologizing to all my US friends that participated in the MDS 2 online class.  I sent the disks over the past week to find out that the postage I was told to put on the disks wasn't good enough.  All of the disks got sent BACK to me, I can't reuse the postage and now I'm told I have to send them as small parcel because it isn't just "print" material!  SO.....I am going to drive to the States on Thursday and visit a US post office and send them from the US for you!  The advantage is you will probably get them sooner, but please don't be surprised when it's not my address on the package:)  Thank you for your patience....can you see why doing DVDs is NOT my favourite thing to do:)  Again, thanks for your support!

Today's project is my favourite little matchbox card, but this one I made a little longer and it holds a gift card.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE our fabric from the holiday mini.  You'll be seeing lots of projects with the fabric, so if you don't have it yet, you may want to:)  I just used the circle Big Shot die, and cut out the three circles (the smallest three).  I then pulled the treads around the outside edge to fray it a bit.  Then to get it to look wavy, I simply pulled on the fabric about every 1/2 inch and it pulls the fibres so it adds some dimension.  This is so quick and easy to make and adds some pop to your project!  It's tough to see but check out the little safety pin (from Vintage Trinkets) with the tag dangling off...fun!

Spooky Treats

Happy Friday to you!  I have to say originally I was a little disappointed when the kids came home this month saying no costumes at school and that today is orange and black day.  I was a little sad for the kids as I know they love to see their friends and all the creative ideas because on Halloween night we often don't run into very many people.  But this year, I'm a little behind and there are no finished costumes yet:)  So, guess what part of today's projects will be???

In the meantime, I wanted to share some Halloween treats I made for a few teachers and friends for today.  I'm embarrassed to say how quick and easy they are but how much I love them!!!  I got the idea from my friend Kimberly Van Diepen (she did them with sweet little chocolates...adorable!)  I saw these chocolate bars on sale (Caramel Latte...doesn't that sound fun!) so I grabbed a whack and came home and embellished.  I made some for a few of Adam's coworkers and I had to laugh as he said, "I don't think my people will appreciate the fact they get a button AND a sparkly brad!"  Anyhow, they all turned out a little different, which makes it fun!  Aren't the glimmer brads super awesome...they just make it all POP!  

Here is a QUICK recipe on this package:

• Basic Black - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 wrapped around the chocolate bar
• Coloured cardstock - 3 x 8 1/2 rolled with the Halloween wheel that matches the Dark and Dreary Stamp Set
• Kraft - Decorative Label stamped with the spider web from Wicked Cool, Modern Label stamped with the greeting and web from Wicked Cool
• Embellishments - Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Buttons, Linen Thread, Glimmer Brads

Hey Cupcake!

I can't take credit for this amazing idea!  While we were at Founders, every participant received a cupcake similar to this on their pillow one night!  It was a super sweet surprise and I loved it!  I think that Selma made 135 of these...can you imagine?  Well, I changed mine up a bit and used the Candy Cane Christmas fabric to make this creation.

Once you get in the groove, these are actually really quick to put together and super fun to give!  Cut a length of fabric about 1 1/2 inches wide the length of the fabric (this is the stripe) and a piece 3/4 of an inch (this is the polka dot) HALF the length of the fabric.  Simply do a running stitch near the edge of the fabric, the full length.  Then, pull the ends and knot (this will gather the ribbon).  Repeat with both pieces.  Then simply sew the button on the top and have it hold all your fabric together.

The base of the cupcake is made using the Place Setting Die (think that's the right name...the one that looks like a cupcake holder) and the Circles 2 die.  The Circle 2 die is for the top of the "box".  To hold your special treat inside the cupcake, simply include a cupcake liner and it will stay snug in place.

MDS Journal....LOVE IT!

Well, apparently I was tired last night:)  I must have fallen asleep while doing my post because when I checked my post today...it wasn't here:)  Sorry about that:)  

So I had WAY too much fun with MDS yesterday!  I did some power MDSing while my boys were sleeping.  No fooling around....just got down to business:)  I have been talking with my team a lot about "investing in your business".  What I mean by this, is we are demonstrators because we LOVE Stampin' Up!  We love to create and we love the product!  So, why not share this passion and create gifts for this upcoming season.  I have set this challenge out for myself to make everyone (or just about everyone) something this year.  Of course the kids will get the the store bought stuff, but I really want to make them something as well.

Couple of things to remember when creating....keep on the guides to see what COULD get cut off when printed.  The journal is a photo cover, and the area is fairly large, so make sure when you create, nothing of importance (like a letter or photo) is in this area!  I've sent this one off to get printed and in a few weeks when I get it back, I'll share my thoughts!

My Digital Studio Quilt!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for my project today!!  Do you ever get an idea in your head that you just HAVE to make?  Well, I had this huge urge when I saw the new downloads that SU came out with on Tuesday.  The Halloween bundle just screamed fun to me!

I wanted to make a pillow....a pillow with a raven on it!  Wouldn't that be spooktacular?  I think so!  Well, it didn't stop there...I thought it would be super fun to make a quilt!  So that's what happened on Tuesday...into the very wee hours!  

So, you may wonder how I created this quilt.  I went into MDS, and selected an 8 1/2 x 11 scrapbook page.  I then used the Vintage Overlays, Spooky Stamps (included in the new download) and the new Halloween DSP (again, the new download) to create a variety of images.  I then printed these images onto iron on transfers.  After transferring them, I created different sized quilt blocks and made this little Halloween rag quilt.  In making this quilt though...I learned a few things:

1. Don't iron directly on top of an already transferred image
2. Iron on a HARD surface like a granite counter top, not an ironing board
3. Set your iron to the hottest setting
4. Don't iron directly on top of an already transferred image (did I already mention this...cause it took me three times to remember this one:)
5. Push HARD on the iron when ironing the images on your fabric
6. Peel off the transfer paper before it cools completely, but let it cool a bit before you peel

Gift Card Holder

It's middle of the week already!  How crazy is that!?!  I sure love making gift card holders and having them on hand.  I always wish that I'll stay on top of things and be ready when the holidays come, but I have yet to do that!  Maybe this Christmas will be different:) (yeah right!)

So super late....but HERE!

I thank you all for being so patient with me!  I'm not sure I'm ever caught up, but I have been really behind these past few weeks.  Between Founders, Regionals, football, cheerleading and Adam's coaching, life has been ridiculous!  I can't complain as they are all wonderful components, but they have put me behind the eight ball a bit.  What I will complain about is the fact that my boys aren't napping together anymore!  I could always count on two hours in the afternoon when Cole and Nathan would each take a nap and now that Nathan is a little bigger he's not napping as often and Cole is growing he's pretty unpredictable!  With that being said....I'm happy to share my project that I presented at Regionals.

When I was at Convention, a super sweet lady shared with me an adorable snowflake ornament (and if you know who this is, PLEASE let me know so I can thank her and also give credit where credit is due:)  I loved the simplicity of the project and started dreaming up ways to alter, change and make it my own.  So after some playing, I created a scrapbook wreath (using the exact same template, just switching up the size).

Here are the instructions to make the project.  The dimensions are at the bottom, as you can create this in ANY size as long as you use squares.  So cut your paper, follow these instructions and have fun!

1. Begin with your five squares that are all the same size.  Score each of them in half, in both direction.  Then score each square on the diagonal BUT ONLY ONE diagonal.
2. Fold each of the pieces of cardstock in half in the same direction (NOT the diagonal) just the horizontal and vertical score lines.
3. Flip the paper over and fold the cardstock on the diagonal.  Repeat this with each of the five pieces.
4. MAKE SURE YOUR SCORE LINES ARE NICE AND TIGHT!
5. Fold the five pieces of cardstock.  If you creased your edges nicely, then it should fold easily.  When folding them, the full squares with no score lines should be on the top and bottom, and the squares with the creased diagonals will be tucked inside the folded cardstock.  (Hope this makes sense)
6. Now you want to sticky strip or Tombow glue these five pieces of cardstock together.  When doing this, attach them by stacking them one on top of the other so the opening is going in the SAME direction.  
7. After gluing the pages together you should see that it wants to open like a wreath.
8. Now is the fun part!  You can decorate the front panels...if you hang this project you'd see this showing in the front.
9. And you also have the five "inside" pages to decorate as well!  
10. Thread a button onto a piece of skinny ribbon.  To assemble the open and closing mechanism, simply attach a square of cardstock the same size as 1/4 of original squares to the front end and back end of the wreath.  Sandwich the ribbon between the two layers or cardstock and this will hold the ribbon in place!  

This is a super quick and easy project to put together!  If you want to "spice" it up, you certainly can by adding extra bling, stamps and embellishments.  I'll show you my "done up" version on my blog tomorrow!

As for the dimensions....any squares will work!  My two favourite sizes are:

BIG SIZE for scrapbooking:

• 8x8 - five of these sheets scored at the 4 in each direction
• 4x4 - two of these - these are the front and back ends of the books
• 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 - the size of the photos and DSP layers 
• 18 inches - skinny taffeta ribbon
• 1 button - the bigger the holes the better

SMALL SIZE perfect for holiday ornaments or hanging from a mantle:

• 3x3 - five of these sheets scored at the 1 1/2 inch in each direction
• 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 - two of these - these are the front and back ends of the wreath
• 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 - the size of the photos or embellishment layers
• 10 inches - skinny taffeta ribbon
• 1 button

What do 8 kids and a lovely lady have in common?

Spooktacular Houses!  I had so much fun yesterday at my kids' class!  I always love the kids classes, but this one was fun and special since the moms got to stay and we made some super fun haunted houses!  The best part is they all look different, but they all look amazing!  I gave the kids the basic supplies and framework and they let their creativity take over!  To see their houses up close, click on the photo and you can see the details!  The houses turned out so GREAT!  

When you purchase these houses, they come in white (for like $7!) so for these projects I just spray painted them with a basic spray paint.  It took all of five minutes to paint up the 10 houses.  It's hard to see in the photos, but the windows are done with vellum.  They ran the windows through the Big Shot with the spider web embossing folder which looked super cool!  Then the had some wire to hang bats with, some cut it up, others wrapped the house in wire!  Lots of options, lots of fun!

Some Halloween Home Decor

As you all know I LOVE LOVE LOVE Halloween!!!  I found these super cute sprinkle test tubes and holder at our local Home Sense Store (my favourite Halloween pit stop!)  I think the tubes and holder were $3.99 so they jumped off the shelf and I just HAD to have them.

I decided to "spook" them up a bit and add some DSP and some extra embellishments.  My family is a little upset that they don't pull out of the holders anymore (the sparkle brads get in the way).  But seriously, the sprinkles need to stay in the container, at least for now, to add to the decor.  Aren't I a cruel mother?

To create this super quick project, I wrapped each of the test tubes in the Wicked Fun DSP.  The labels on the front are created with the Label Punch, the 1 inch circle and the 1 1/4 inch circle.  On top of each of the test tube lids I also have the corresponding DSP punched out using the 1 inch circle punch.

The stamp set I used for this is Wicked Cool (my FAVOURITE set this year....I think....a least for today!)  The colours are Cajun Craze, Basic Black and Rich Razzleberry (with a side of Old Olive).  The "boingy" bats are punched out of Basic Black cardstock.  There is a front and a back bat that I sandwiched the wire between.  I used sticky strip here as I didn't want the bats to fall off.

The other added touches are a little bit of ribbon, some glimmer brads and a little bit of love:)  Hope you like today's creation!  I'm excited to pull out all the rest of our Halloween home decor over the next week or so!!!  Have a wonderful day!

Owl Punch

 This is one of the cutest punches EVER!  I will show you my Convention projects with this punch in a few days.  In the meantime, I wanted to show you a quick project that my new friend Sheila gave me at Convention.  I met Sheila at the Hippie Party on the Wednesday night at Convention and she showed me her sweet little swap.  I freaked out because it was so easy and cute AND quick!  I didn't have any swaps but Sheila was super sweet and gave me one just because.  Thank you Sheila!

This tag is done using the Two Tags die for the Big Shot.  Sheila creased her cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot so it folded over.  Then on the inside of this bookmark are two magnets so they will hold shut in the book as a bookmark.  Isn't that a great idea!  

To top it off, wouldn't this be a fun way to pass out your business card?  Tuck it between the magnets and your clients will never forget receiving your card!

Aviary....LOVE LOVE LOVE this set!

 Are you sick of me using this set yet?  I'm so sorry, well, actually I'm not.  I have had so much fun with this stamp set and can't wait for my class on this!  I was going to do cards that I had already created for a demo class I did in Utah, but I've had too much fun with it so I've come up with all new projects!  I had to share this one with you today.

 At Convention, there are a million and one display boards and this concept was on one of them.  I loved the idea of a little match box with cards inside.  The sample at Convention was done with Batty For You (also love this set) so I thought I'd borrow the idea and use it for Aviary.  If you know who's sample I saw I'd love to send off a thank you!  Unfortunately at Convention, the creators aren't labelled so it's an unknown to me:)

I just love the colour combination I've used on this, but this whole idea can work for any occasion.  Isn't it fun?  This is one of the projects we will be making on Tuesday at my class.

Convention WOW Share

 My new friend, Monica, is heavily involved with the Late Night Stampers group.  Monica kindly asked if I'd do a "show and tell" on Saturday night at a Late Night Stampers gathering.  I accepted and then she dropped the "bomb"!  (Kidding:)  Monica nicely asked if I'd share MDS with the group.  I didn't want to do a scrapbook page though as I know a lot of people have a lot of MDS experience BUT I also wanted to have something that even newbies could relate to!  So, I decided to go hybrid....that means digital and traditional combined.

 The outside of my little album is all hand stamped.  The basic black is 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 and is used as the mat for all the photos (you'll see).  The celebrate is from the Big Shot and the stamp is from Crazy for Cupcakes on watercolour paper.

 The inside of the book is what I created in MDS.   I made up a template and then could easily recreate these pages for everyone in my family.  So this is a perpetual flip calendar.  I included the photo of each person, and then put their name and birthday date on the card.  I switched up the ribbon colour and stamped cupcake to match their photos.  If it was an anniversary, I used the wedding ring stamp.  

So my master plan for this little book is to hang it in my craft room with the next event at the front, this way I can easily see who and when the next card is needed.  Wish me luck!!!  I'll be back soon with a sketch challenge for you....just flying home now from an AMAZING week!  Thanks to everyone I met and will continue to maintain a friendship with!!!  Take care,

Guest Blogger - Bird!

 Now, this name (AKA Jen) is getting to be quite familiar on my blog. I think Bird makes me such cute creations just so she gets on my site (not cause she likes me:)  KIDDING!!!  I am lucky to have Bird and she is SUPER talented!  As a little thank you for lending her some supplies, she made me this adorable little magnet kit!

Box Dimensions

 I was hoping to get a quick video done for you for this video, but life has not permitted just yet:)  SO, I thought I'd share the quick written instructions since so many of you have been asking.  I appreciate the request and hope you have fun creating!

So it's 10 x 6 1/2 scored at 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 in one direction and then 1 and 5 1/2 in the other direction.  Cut along the 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 inch lines on the edges to make the tabs, punch a half circle in the front and fold the box together!  Quick and easy!

Shower Favours and a Little Mystery Night!!!

 Happy Monday to you!  I hope you had a great weekend!  Ours was fun but busy!  We had a wonderful shower to go to on Sunday for my friend, Martha.  She is adorable and due in just over a month (and looks amazing!)  I can't believe it, but I forgot my camera so I don't have any photos to share with you.  BUT, what I do have to share are the favours, Emma, Monica (my niece) and I made for Martha's shower.  They were a lot of fun to put together....using the NEW Pear Pizazz, Tempting Turquoise and Rich Razzleberry!  Aren't they fun colours together?

We used the Fancy Favour Box and the NEW stamp set Baby bundle (all stamps are from this set that as a demonstrator I got to preorder!)  The set is so adorable it's ALMOST worth having another baby for:)

My Digital Studio Monday!

 Happy Monday to you!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  As usual, ours was busy but fun!  Emma had her friend birthday party on Sunday so I thought I'd share an MDS page with you, her thank you gifts and a few other pictures.  Her birthday was at gymnastics and lots of fun!  

 Emma really wanted these cookie dough cupcakes I make for her birthday so felt that cookie monster would be a fun way to decorate them!  Years ago I remember seeing these cupcakes online (think I could find them when making them though:)  Anyhow, they turned out cute and YUMMY!

 For her thank you gifts, Emma wanted to make something they would have to keep forever.  So we decided to do the Simply Adorned bracelet charms.  Emma used the tiny tags stamp set and stamped the decorative one in So Saffron, the crown in Old Olive and their initial in Tempting Turquoise.  She added some gems to the crown and a piece of DSP to the back.  I hope the girls liked them:)

Simply Stamping Two

 Happy Friday to you!  I hope that you've been having a GREAT week!  It's been a fun and busy one around here.  I've got lots of fun stuff to share with you today!

Thanks Missy!

 My good friend, Missy, was a real treat to see on cruise and spend some time with!  She is always so happy and kind.  At the open session, she handed out the cutest tea bag thank you's and I just HAD to copy them.  

They are so stinking cute to make and beyond simple!  I love that you could pound out a million of them, quickly, AND not get sick of them.  The sample Missy made me was done with the new DSP, Island Oasis.  I wanted to make some up quickly so I used up scraps of DSP I had.  This one uses that beautiful DSP we had in our last mini catalogue.

The package itself uses the Petal Card die for the Big Shot.  The DSP is 5 1/4 inches long (seam is on the front behind the flower).  Then you can embellish however you like!  Aren't they ADORABLE?  And it would also look super sweet on a card front!  Have fun with this one, and thanks for the inspiration Missy!

Updates...

 Better late than never, right?  I'm having fun playing catch up and preparing some FUN classes coming up!  I am so excited to share with you some of these upcoming classes, kits and challenges!

Perpetual Calendar Class

It's a Big Shot Quilt

 I completely forgot to post this project for you!  When I went to the Syracuse Regionals our friends and I went to a fabulous quilt store.  It was so much fun!   A few of us all purchased this cute owl print material and I can't wait to see what everyone else has created with this material!  I made this "shot glass" quilt using the BIG SHOT!  (Pennant die).  What do you think?  

 I NEVER in a million years thought I'd make a quilt.  I am pleased with the finished product, although there are a few things I would change (like my machine quilting in the end:)  BUT, you know like any craft, it's homemade and I'm proud of it!

 Here are a few photos showing you how I made the quilt.  The first step was cutting the material.  I've taken a few photos of the die and the cut pieces so you can see how they were made (I didn't cut the top of the pennant).

Then I laid them all out on the floor to get an idea of where I "randomly" wanted the material to go.  This was fun and we played with the layout.  Then, I brought them home from NY to sew!  I sewed each row together and then the rows together, then the edge, then the back (doesn't that sound simple?)

Our Wonderful Life and a Purse!

 Happy Wednesday to you!  I love the title of this post and MDS page as it speaks volumes of my life.  I couldn't ask for better.  I took this picture of the kids the other day just on a whim.  It may not be the best picture, they may not match and their hair isn't even combed but I love it because it reflects our life....our wonderful life.

The focus of this page is truly on the journaling.  I used the punch feature in MDS to make the white rectangles.  Then I created a text box the same size of the rectangle and wrote a little summary about each of my munchkins on their own rectangle.  I just did a little summary of what they are up to right now and some of their wonderful qualities.  I am thrilled withe the simplicity of this page yet it still speaks to me.  Hope you can use some of these ideas on a future page for yourself:) (If you click on the picture you can see it larger and check out some of the finer details like the staples and stitching.)

 Back by popular demand...yes, I've been sewing!  I just can't get enough!  I have a few sewing projects to share over the next little while.  This sweet little purse is the reverse rag purse.  Emma doesn't quite "get" why I keep making purses (since I don't carry one...and won't for at least three more years of diapers:)  But I am hooked, I love it and am happy sitting back with the sewing machine.  So, if you're interested, this purse is for sale.  It's $25 which covers the cost of shipping if you're in North America.  If you purchase this purse and I require international shipping, I will email you the difference before you have to commit.  Thanks so much!  Hope you like the purse and MDS page!

Camera Bag

 Here is a quick little project that I have to share with you today!  It was a quilted little camera bag for my little point and shoot Canon camera.  I had fun whipping this together.  I know it's not too much, but I did include a quick instruction sheet for you on this one.

What I didn't include in the instructions was that I did some applique on the bag.  The flower on the front (the green fabric) is cut using the clear flower die and then I used applique to place it on the scallop square.  I just wanted to link together the inner fabric and   this little decor!  FUN!

I just used the adhesive velcro for the closure on this purse.  Next time I think I'd do a magnetic snap though so it's hidden in the fabric.  Overall, I'm really happy with this!  I'll share a picture with you in a few days of the laptop bag I made in a very similar manner!  (If you click on the image of the instructions you can see them larger)

 Today's post is a fun one!  My friend Anne and I went on a shopping adventure last week.  We went to a quilt shop (yes, I'm just about done a project to show you:) and then hit the dollar store!  It was such a fun adventure!  When we were in the dollar store we set a little challenge for each other.

We had to buy an item for each other that can be edited and altered in a fun stamping way.  Well, I think I'm a pretty nice person so I thought a clock would be a fun, relatively easy item to alter.  I thought it would be fun to switch up.  Well, Anne thought it was fun and check out what she made for me!  Isn't it ADORABLE????  (Anne said her inspiration for Chris, our UPS man, was Gina Gygert....thanks Gina!)  Thank you ANNE!!!!

Well, sometime soon I'll share a photo of the fun item she bought for me to alter....yes that's right.....A SHOVEL!!!  Can you believe it.....wish me luck:)

Loving the Big Shot for sewing!

 Happy Friday to you!  Hope you're having a great day!  Today's post really excites me!  I love the colours and I love the project!  This bag is the "reverse" of the rag quilt purse.  I die cut the material with the scallop square die in the Big Shot but rather than sewing the edges out, I sewed them "in".  

This purse was made with 19 squares of fabric on the outside of the purse, then I used quilt batting on the inside and then a liner done in one fabric (one piece) on the inside.  Rather than using ribbon for the handles, I made them with some coordinating fabric.  

You know this couldn't be on my blog without a little more SU, I used the Playground Old Olive Button to hold the flap over.  

 Also, I had to make a matching card to go with this purse.  It's so simple, but matches the colours on the purse ... Summer Sun, Real Red, Old Olive and Ballet Blue.  It's tough to see in this photo, but I dry embossed two rectangles around the popped out layer of Summer Sun.  The butterflies were cut with the little Embosslit from the mini catalogue (cute, eh?)  Then I had Real Red ribbon around the top layer and tied shut with a button and linen thread.  The greeting "SIMPLY ADORABLE" is a rub on in Whisper White.

 Happy Monday to you!  What a fun but busy day!  Sorry for the late post:)  We had a day of visiting old and new friends, which was VERY enjoyable.  And then tonight my upline had a great downline meeting, which was great to get to see old and new friends again!  Thank you so much to all the ladies that demoed amazing projects and to Alicia for hosting the meeting!

Today's project was a lot of fun to make.  We did this in our last template club.  This sweet little box holds two of the milk cartons....which has GOT to be my favourite die ever!  

 Did you know that you can get 4 milk carton boxes from one sheet of 12x12 cardstock.  You need a 5x7 sheet of cardstock to make the box.  To get four from one sheet, start cutting 5 inches in and cut 7 inches long.  Rotate the page 90 degrees and cut 5 inches in and cut 7 inches long....repeat on all sides and VOILA you have 4 pieces with a 2x2 scrap.

Today's project is one of them from my Mystery Night class last night.  How cute is this milk carton!?!  Well guess what, it's a die in the current mini catalogue!  Is it not just the sweetest?!?!  It's a small little container which is perfect if you want to give someone just a little treat.  The front rectangle is about 1 3/4 x 2 inches.  Don't you love it!?!?  Sorry I'll stop being so excited.  Here is the recipe for this little treat container:

• Kraft - 5 x 7 for the container to run through the Big Shot
• DSP Sweet Pea - 1 1/2 x 7 
• Soft Suede - 1 3/4 inch circle 
• Apricot Appeal - 1 3/8 circle

Teacher Gift

I thought I'd share with you a project we made for Mark's teacher this year.  We are so lucky to have had the same teacher now for three years (two years for Emma and one for Mark).  So, we decided to make her a quilt rag purse that was a little bigger than the one I made last time (and the one I'm giving away this month on my blog as a thank you to my online shoppers!)  CLICK HERE FOR THE DETAILS

I love the colours of this fabric, the rusts and browns and the overall "au natural" (Emma's words).  This bag used 34 x 2 of the scallop squares (12 on the front, 12 on the back and then 10 for the middle layers).  Between each of the fabric layers is a 3x3 piece of quilt batting.  Then the handle of the purse was done with the SU striped grosgrain Chocolate Chip Ribbon.  I used velcro for the close for this bag.  When cutting the fabric with the Big Shot, I cut 6 layers at a time.  I also run it throught the Big Shot twice, so I run it through forwards then backwards just to make sure it cuts clean through all the layers.  I have not had any troubles with this process.

After sewing the project together, make sure you wash up the purse to fray the edges a bit.  I always wash it on it's own as you'll get lots of little pieces of fabric on your other clothes.  Hope you like it, Nathan sure did!  He wants one of these for Christmas and he thinks Santa needs one too (we're working on that one)   

Today's MDS page was very quick and easy.  I was sitting at my computer and finding photos that I still needed to scrap.  And when I was looking in my files, I found something to inspire my next page layout.  Can you guess what it was?  I'll share it with you tomorrow but feel free to guess:)

Table Favour ... quick and easy!

OK, after multiple tries at this, I get it!  This little favour box is sweet, quick and somewhat easy to put together.  I will shoot a video on it in the nearish future, but in the meantime I'll share the project with you.  My wonderful friend and downline, Christine, demonstrated these boxes at our group meeting in November (thanks Christine!) so I wanted to give them a try.  I'm sure glad that I did.  I stamped the favour using the Serene Snowflake stamp set (that is only available until January 4th)  Anyhow, hope you like this creation and I'll share instructions soon!

Today's MDS page are photos from decorating the outside of our house this year.  We couldn't have picked a better weekend to do it!  Oh, wait, really almost any weekend would due as we still have NO snow...this makes me so sad.  I'm really hoping for a white Christmas!  Today's little MDS trick is how I got the textured background look on the Top Note/Label die.  I simply created the first label die to size, filled it with my desired colour, and then I copied and pasted the label onto itself and rather than filling it with the same colour, I used the Sahara Sand Distressed DSP and changed the opacity to about 30% and ended up with that look.  Hope you like it!

How lucky am I?

Today's post is another special one for me as it's a gift from my friend Dale!!!  She is so incredibly sweet and made this beautiful frame for my family.  Now, without realizing it, she made the four   snowmen to be my four little munchkins!  How fun is that?

Star Book

I have to say that I have never made a star book before!  I know, and I'm a lover of 3D items and fun cutting, but I have never made one of these adorable books!  Well, my fabulous downline and friend, Lisa, made this at our event on Friday night and it was my Secret Santa gift!!!  How lucky am I?

This is the super fun box that the gift came in.  It uses the DSP that is flocked and in the current mini catalogue (which is available until Jan. 4)  This box has a pull off lid and being the smart cookie that Lisa is she made it out of the white thick sheets on the back of the DSP package.  This gives more stability and strength than the Whisper White cardstock.

Then the book was made using Kraft (my favourite), Real Red, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.  Lisa used lots of bits and pieces of different stamp sets, paper products and embellishments.  This is the perfect project to use up your small pieces.  Thanks again Lisa for the wonderful gift that will be filled with photos from this year:)

Christmas Advent

Ever wonder what you can do with the left over pieces of DSP and embellishments from a Simply Scrappin' kit?  Well, let me show you one way!

This advent calendar is made using scraps from the CHristmas Jingle Simply Scrappin' Kit.  The front of each drawer is decorated differently using a variety of embellishments and papers.  Isn't this fun!?!?  I can't take credit, my friend Sonia made this for me and I LOVE it!

Another fabulous feature to this little drawer set is I can decorate the back of each drawer for....you guessed it, Halloween!!!  How fun will that be?  Then inside each drawer I have little treats for my little sweets as we count down until Christmas (or Halloween!)  If you click on the photo you can see all the details a lot closer.  Have a wonderful Monday!

I have to say that I think I am one of the luckiest ladies around!  I have a fabulous downline that are all so sweet and talented and just bring a smile to my face!  I am so thankful for each of you, near and far!  Thank you for being on my Stampin' Up! team, Simply Stars and thanks for being you!

We had our Simply Stars Christmas Gathering last night.  I'll share with you photos (of course on MDS) and stories and WOW WOW WOW projects over the next few days.  To start with I thought I'd share the make and take project that we did.  As you know, I LOVE Kraft so I wanted to keep the project soft and subtle so I used Kraft and Soft Suede for the entire thing.  We also used the stamp set Serene Snowflakes for all the stamping.  The theme of the gift package was "All Wrapped Up" (and of course CHOCOLATE....can you have the holidays without chocolate?)

I forgot to take a picture of this project before giving it away, but I wrapped my finished project in cellophane with a big bow using the Chocolate Chip Striped Grosgrain ribbon and a little matching 3x3 card.  The box is quite simple to make.  I used the Baskets and Blooms die cut for the end of the box and then rather than attaching the two of these together, I added a rectangle of cardstock in between them to make the basket.  You can make this as long as you want, however, it is only 2 7/8 inches tall as that is the length of the Baskets and Blooms die.  My cardstock piece in the middle was 8 7/8 x 8 scored at 2 7/8 and 6 in the one direction and 1/2 and 7 1/2 in the other direction.  The 1/2 sides become tabs that attach to the Baskets and Blooms Die.  Then I cut a piece of Kraft measuring 2 5/8 x 6 3/4 for both the front and the back of the basket, stamped it and sponged it and voila you have a sweet little gift giving package.

This first package is holding a package of hot chocolate.  It is made using a Kraft envelope!  How fun is that?  I sealed the envelope, cut off a 2 inch section (this is the lid) and then stamped and sponged all over the package.  The bottom of the envelope has been run through the crimper so it is a smidge smaller than the lid and will slide in and out easily.  I then placed a package of hot chocolate inside, punched a hole through the package and fed the ribbon through to hold everything in place.  This on it's own makes for a great little holiday gift for a group of people (kids at school, coworkers, a group of friends....the token gift to let people know you are thinking of them but won't break the bank).

I like the EASE of this next gift.  It would be really cute as a present topper for your gifts this holiday season (and talk about easy...)  It uses the Two Tags Die for the Big Shot a FANTASTIC die for all year round (and yes it fits in the other die cutting machines).  It is a simple way to make up a quick tag for any occasion.  For this one, I decided to have the tag wrap around a candy cane.  Normally, when this tag is folded in half, it tucks in under a little slot.  But I wanted to be assured it would stay closed so I added the circle snowflake embellishment and only taped it on the top half so it could act as a "holder" on the bottom half for the tag to slide in (did that make sense?)

This is a common use for the Top Notes Die.  I cut two of the dies out, one in Kraft (and cut along the perforated edge to make a layer) and one in Soft Suede.  It is all stamped and sponged.  What I switched up was that inside the pacakge I included a little backer.  This adds extra strength to the package so it is able to stand up on its own (very talented package:) and also it looks sweet as it matches everything else in the gift.  And then inside the bag I have YUMMY candy cane kisses (if you haven't tried these YOU MUST!!!) 

This last package is my favourite kind...a chocolate bar wrapper.  I won't go into the details on how it is assembled as I have many times before on my blog and the dimensions vary depending on the type of chocolate bar you use.  I hope you enjoyed the "All Wrapped Up" packages.  We had a lot of fun making them last night and I hope you can use one, some or all of these ideas!  I'll be back again tomorrow with lots of photos and projects to share!  Have a GREAT DAY!  We are...we're decorating the outside of the house and getting our tree today...can't wait!

You either Love it or you hate it!

So, we made this project last month at my technique and template club.  Some of my wonderful ladies were asking about die cutting and using different materials other than paper.  So I wanted to make something out of felt (and of course I showed them the purse you can cut using the Big Shot as well!)  Anyhow, this is what I came up with. 

My thought was vintage Christmas.  Again, you either love it or hate it!  I'm okay with either emotion:) This could either be used as a card front or you could place this in a picture frame.  The bird is made using the Hearts and Brackets Big Shot die.  The background is done using the Friends 24/7 stamp set (love this brocade background).  I stamped it off using Close To Cocoa and the edges are sponged in the same ink.

The greeting is from the Punch Christmas level 2 hostess set, and it is embossed using Chocolate Chip craft ink and clear embossing powder.

BOO Banner

I want to start off my post by thanking my ladies for last night!  I had a blast at our template and technique club, thank you Lesley, Anne, BJ and Bird!  (we missed you Kelly and Tina).  I really am enjoying my clubs right now as I have the loveliest of ladies and nice small groups so we really are getting to know each other, thank you!!!!

For my template and technique club I try and teach a bunch of new little things to my girls.  They may have made a banner before, but maybe incorporating fabric is new, or the little rosettes on the banner, or using the chunky glitter.  There are lots of steps to these banners so showing all the processes I hope (and think succeeded last night) that they walk away with a project they love and also some new ideas!

The banner is made using the pennant die.  The background is done in Basic Black cardstock.  Then the layers on the banner are done in fabric!  How fun is that???  The scallops at the bottom and the small pennants are all fabric (that I ran through the Big Shot, just like my little curtain from the other day.)

The little florettes (if you click on a picture it will enlarge so you can see them) are done using a 1 1/4 inch strip of the Cast a Spell DSP.  I will do a video soon on these for you.

The letters were cut from the Big Shot Serif Alphabet.  Then we covered them in Tombow Glue and the black chunky glitter...very "pooky" and fun!

I hope you like the project today and not to worry, I haven't given up on card making.  I've also been working on some baby thank you cards and starting the birth announcement process so I can't share these with you just yet:)  I will be back though soon with some cards:)  Have a great day!

UNWelcome Sign

  I had so much fun at my Halloween class last week (thank you so much ladies!!!)  One of the projects we made was this Halloween themed UNWelcome sign.  You know, I just thought it was too pretty to say such harsh words, but it went over really well and I'm so excited with the final project!  This is hanging in my front hallway with a few plastic spiders crawling their way up the wall trying to get to the sign (stuck on with sticky tack).

The sign is just made on a 1x8x24 inch piece of wood.  I spray painted it cream.  First we stenciled the beautiful Brocade stencil on the wood using Basic Gray and Craft Pale Plum.  Then we sprinkled on clear embossing powder and heated it up.  The "U" and the "N" are purchased from Stampin' Up! in the Definately Decorative brochure (each letter came with the option of either upper or lower case).  These letters are black.  Then using the Big Shot and the Serif Alphabet we cut out the word "welcome" and attached it to the sign.  I recommend starting with the letter "e" at the right end and working backwards to make sure it will all fit on the sign. 

After the class I felt the sign needed a little something so I added the spiders from the stamp set From the Crypt.  They are stamped in Basic Black Craft Ink then embossed with the clear embossing powder.

Overall I am thrilled with this project and I think I have made a bit of an impact!  Can't wait for so many of you to see it in person (or IRL...right!)  Have a wonderful day!

Spooky Expressions!

 

Well, I'm off to the races now!  Adam said once I'm home from Founders Circle, Halloween can come out and fill our house!  Now I will do it slowly (maybe) but you'll see more and more Halloween creations and home decor over the next few weeks.

I appreciate all your comments about my videos and now that I am done with the Simply Holidays Punch class (I'm sad it's over as it was TONS of fun!) I will be doing more videos!  It's tough to do one a day for that class and one a day on

my blog.  BUT since many of you said you just want to "see" what I'm doing and it doesn't have to be crazy and new, I'm excited to offer more videos.

Inspire....

What a great word!  Isn't that what the blogging world is all about?  Inspiring one another and sharing what we love?  I loved that this was part of the tag line from the Stampin' Up! Convention.  I hope that once in a while you can stop by my blog and get some inspiration from a colour combination, layout or even an entire creation!

This little journal is actually something Emma and I put together for Convention for a few friends to document their inspiration and ideas.  The colours are Melon Mambo, Basic Black and Pretty in Pink.  The little journals were picked up in a dollar bin at a big box store (as were the matching clips)  We then covered them in Kraft, used the Big Shot to die cut the flowers from felt and then added the Stampin' Up! billboard title, a little DSP and ribbon.  Hope you have a great day!

It's all about the Packaging!

My great friend Sonia is QUEEN of the packaging!  She always has her treats and treasures wrapped, packaged and contained in the sweetest, and sometimes even simplest ways that just WOW me!  I struggle with this and continue to learn from Sonia (ALL THE TIME!)  Thanks Sonia! 

Check out this super sweet and so easy creation!!!  Isn't it ADORABLE!!!  It is simply a cute glass jar, ribbon wrapped around it, the sweet tag made with Batty for you around it and a punched creation on the lid!  I LOVE IT!  The colours she used match perfectly with the adorable gift inside!

It is the sweetest little onsie EVER!!!!  This is our first little outfit for our munchkin....and how appropriate!!!  Here's hoping for a Halloween (or earlier delivery:)  The BOO is written across the bum, just had to share that and the cute little critters all over the jammies!!!  Thanks again Sonia!  Hope all of you enjoy your Saturday and I'll be back tomorrow!

Love the Fancy Favour Box!!!

Happy Friday to you!  It's been a busy day and I do appologize for the late post...but better late than never:)  I'll have my video ready for you for tomorrow!  The day just got away from me between doctor's appointments, carpet shopping and waterfall scrapbooks!

If you ordered a waterfall scrapbook from me BEFORE the first deadline, they were finished today and taken to the post office.  However, with the long weekend the lady said they may not get out until Tuesday.  BUT know they are in the mail and ready for you!  If you were in the second round of ordering, I'll be working on the books this weekend and will let you know when they will be shipped (I'm aiming for Tuesday).

This is the very FUN Fancy favour box from Stampin' Up!  Isn't it pretty!!!  I love that you have the option of making it a gusset box (the sides fold in) or you can leave it like this.  One of the great features is that it holds a 3x3 card and envelope!  (you'd think they planned it that way!)  The stamp set on this creation is Serene Snowflakes (From the mini catalogue) with some 2 way glue and dazzling diamonds.  Hope you like the box and I'll see you again tomorrow for a video, vinyl, and Halloween fun!  Have a great night!

Looking for your opinion....

Adam and I don't talk stamping or house stuff very often.  Both of these departments are really left for me to deal with.  But the other night Adam "trespassed" into my craft room (can you tell the temperature of the discussion?) and asked why I was working so hard on Halloween projects.  So of course I simply responded with, "Because it's right around the corner and such a GREAT holiday!"  He was surprised to hear me say that two months is right around the corner.  And I followed with, well, it's not that close BUT I need to start decorating at the beginning of September.  He truthfully doesn't care and our discussion was in fun, but then I got to thinking, am I crazy, is this too early????  My reasoning is it's nice to have on display for all of you to see and touch and get ideas from now so you have plenty of time to create and make!  (OK, that and I LOVE Halloween!!!)  So, if you have a minute today to leave me a comment, let me know when you think I can start pulling out my INSIDE Halloween decor!!!  I will mail off a series of 5 cards to someone that leaves a post between now and Monday on this post.

Now, onto why you are here...today's HALLOWEEN project!  I have a bunch of jars from IKEA that I wasn't sure what to do with.  After staring at it for quite some time, this is what I came up with.  I used the raw Gray vinyl and ran it through the Big Shot using the Lattice Die.  I used 3 1/2 of them to cover this jar.  After applying the vinyl, I added the 5/8 Black Grosgrain.  I wanted a bit more "colour" so I put a one inch strip of Perfect Plum cardstock on the inside of the jar.  Then of course it needed a tag!  I had to use the Graveyard Gala stamp set that I just LOVE!!!!  But instead of using the information for an invitation, I covered this up with the Halloween Rub On done one DSP and then punched out with the Wide Oval and mounted on a 1 3/4 inch circle.  This was then popped up on the stamped image.  The tag was just cut out by hand, I attached an eyelet, fed the ribbon through and VOILA!
