MDS Challenge - A Little Sketchy Sketchy with some Gold!

I know last summer at Convention, Pam Morgan went on stage to say how on trend gold was. I have to admit, I wasn't buying it.  I just didn't see it, and I couldn't believe it was trendy.... well, Pam I owe you an apology!  Gold is HOT!  And I'm having a TON of fun with it! 

For this week's challenge, I'm offering up a sketch...I like to call Top Heavy:)  I tend to place a lot of my focal point and main photos in the bottom right, so today I went with the opposite!  Can't wait to see your take on this sketch!

And of course, I had to add the BLING to my page.  I love the Glimmer Paper (and it recolours BEAUTIFULLY too!)  For this page, I really only used the Glimmer Kit.  It's a simple sketch, and a simple page, but I hope you like it!

Busy Week...

It's been a crazy busy week!  With Nathan's birthday party yesterday and I suppose just "life" (not really sure!) it's been a busy week around here and I only had the chance to stamp once.  It was a great "once" though as I spent the day with Marelle and Teneale which was just lovely (and rather unproductive for me, but that's okay!)

I have my AMAZINGLY talented friend Martha to thank for part of my party prep for Nathan's birthday.  I LOVE all she has made with MDS and shrink art (check out her blog HERE).  Martha introduced me to "shrinky dink" (that's what I always called it as a kid) that can be printed on (ink jet printer) and then backed.  I wasn't as fancy as Martha just due to time but you can actually print on both sides of the papers.  

So, I created a name tag for each of the boys on a "football field" circle with a helmet and then once I printed them I used the circle framelit to cut them out.  I also printed out a football and hand cut them out.  You have to punch a hole in the shrink art paper before you cook them.  Follow the instructions for cooking and YES, believe that they will uncurl.  These babies shrunk, curled, puckered....and then flattened nicely!  

The tags on the brown bags were done quickly in MDS as well and just printed with the home computer.  All in all, I'm really happy with how it all came together (and as Adam says, I didn't even need a whole craft room....)

Hello World!

Today's page was a fun one to put together!  I love how it turned out, and it's probably because the colours and photos are easy!  It's a pretty fun and summery layout!

Here are a couple of tips for this page:

• take a picture of something fun....like the feet.... it tells a story!
• create your own background that works for your page
• rather than dropping a shadow behind a stamp, create a duplicate stamp and change the colour and then place it just off a little behind a stamp (see title)
• randomly place photos behind frames for fun!

PRIZE ALERT

Happy day to you!  If you didn't already know, my mom is AMAZING!  She truly is!  I can't tell you how many shares she must have in Canada Post but there are MANY a days we go to the mailbox and inside is a wonderful surprise (and of course card!) for one of us!  Well, my mom surprised me with a sweet package of goodies and one of them was this personalized stamp!

I LOVE my coffee (and I mean LOVE!) so what better stamp than a coffee one for me:)  Coffee & Friends make the perfect blend!  TRUE!!!  If I could change ONE thing about Adam it would be that he enjoys a hot beverage.  There's just something about sitting around, chatting with a hot drink in your hands!  Truly....do you agree?

Baby, We've Grown....Again

I hope you're not getting sick of these cards.  Whats funny is that I borrow a stamp set from Teneale, make a million with the set before I return it and then of course end up purchasing it!  Funny how that works, eh?  It's wonderful having peopel in our world that are "enablers".

Banners are still pretty trendy, so I wanted to create a banner using some of the sweet stamped images.  I'm sure any of you mommas out there have had to wash and hang your munchkins special friends on your line (I have many a time!)  So, this is what inspired me to make this card.

MDS Challenge - A Sketch from Miss Kimberly

Happy Monday to you!  I hope you had yourself an amazing weekend!  We sure did....and this page shows a little bit of how Nathan felt!  He had a blast having his birthday celebration in Jervis Bay.

To check out Kimberly's sketch, make sure you head on over to her blog, or use mine and catch the gist of it:)  That's the great thing about a sketch, it's a starting place!  The other challenge Kimberly gave us is to use wooducts and sequins.  Give it a shot!  Can't wait to see what you come up with! I added the extra photos on the bottom of the page as this is what gave Nathan the great smiles:)  I altered the size of the frame to just accent the pictures.

For my page, I used the Woodcuts download and the kit, Finest Simplicity.  The DSP, frames and embellishments are from this kit.  Cute, eh?

Sweet Baby

I sure do love this stamp set, Baby We've Grown.  I'm not sure if it's the owls or the sweet little shoes that pushed me over the edge, but it's a GREAT stamp set!

And of course I LOVE the Banner Blast stamp set and punch!  Only one more week to enjoy these for FREE!!!!  If you haven't put in your Sale-a-bration orders, don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested!!!  I'm IN LOVE!  Hope you are too!

This banner was simple to put together.  Run the Linen Thread along the front of the card then attach the banner pieces using snail along the top and dimensionals on the bottom of some fo the pieces.  Cute, eh?  

I think that Soft Sky has to be one of my favourite colours right now.  It's beautiful paired with soft colours, but works well with brights as well!  LOVE it!

Well, on that happy note, off to make lunches I go (UGH....for those that know me, I still HATE making them:)

Awesome

I love the Cool Kids stamp set!  I've been making some cards to send home to some of my munchkins there....this being one of them.

I've been doing a ton of sewing on my cards lately.  It's such a quick and easy way to add a ton of details to a card (that and I don't have a ton of embellishment options:)  

I like the paper piecing I did on the scarf and boots for this little monkey.  I also stamped the scarf twice so it looks like there are two tails to this scaft.  What do you think?

OK....onto today's MDS challenge....Using stamps!  I tend to rely heavily on already created embellishments (meaning SU did all the work for me!)  BUT this week we're challenging you to use your stamps to create beautiful additions to your projects.  I chose to use the coffee cup from the Perfect Blend set  and then used two fun techniques to "colour" in my stamp.  The first was to edit a punch for behind the coffee cup and the "cozie" on the cup.  CLICK HERE to see how to edit a punch.

 

The other "trick" I used to spice up this creation was to drop a "thick" shadow under the lid and the "cozie" using the freeform tool.  I matched the colour to the darker shade of Crumb Cake on the DSP (from Downtown Grunge) and then hand drew the shadow under the lid.... cute, eh?  

 

I'm a HUGE fan of this stamp set and am thrilled with the final look of this creation!  And as you can see, it's versatile and can be used for lots of fun cards!  The first sample is a punch card idea that can be printed onto a business card size.  Cute, eh?  The second is a birthday card for some of my coffee loving friends. Can't wait to make more....and tags...and so much more!

Thanks Rhino

Happy weekend to you!  Hope yours is full of fun!  Ours was a busy one, we headed up to Port MacQuarrie this weekend for some outdoor fun.  They keep saying "winter" is coming, so we are trying to get in as many beach weekends in as we can before it gets cooler.  We spent Saturday at the beach and hiking, then Sunday we did some more hiking and then a fun zoo:)  You're welcome to check out our travel blog if your interested in our Australian adventures: www.stampwithheather.typepad.com/travel

OK.... onto my card for today!  On Friday at 2:45 I realized I needed a card for Nathan's teacher.  He had a supply teacher for the past two weeks who was lovely, so Nathan really wanted to give him a card (which I totally forgot about until 2:45....)  Cole and I have to leave NO later than 2:52 to get to school on time for him, so that meant, use the scraps on my table and whip something together!  So this is what I came up with, with one minute to spare!

In a nutshell, I stamped the Gorgeous Grunge in the background and on the thx in Crumb Cake.  I stamped the Rhino in Red.  I taped the DSP on the card, then ran it through the sewing machine as I didn't want to add ribbon or bling on a "manly" card.

If I had a few more minutes I would have stamped and cut the rhino out and popped up his horns maybe in Crumb Cake.  Overally though, thrilled with the card and Whoo Hoo....done in 6 minutes!

Thanks Stampin' Up!

Well, today's post is a quick one.  We are off on a weekend adventure so I don't have a PDF for you.... still have to finish some last minute packing:)  I thought today I'd share with you this beautiful card I got in the mail from Stampin' Up! Australia!

This card is an invitation to their Leadership which is the day before their Convention here in Australia!  I'm honoured and completely excited!  I LOVE how the creator used the gold trim on this card.  I'll be honest, I take mine apart for each individual circle and I know that means I have HEAPS and I'll never get through the roll!  Now I just have to get a hold of a butterfly punch..... 

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy today's creation!  I feel inspired by it and I hope you do too!  Have a wonderful day!

Hello Beautiful

Dropping A Line is a GREAT download from last week!  I love it!!!  The colours and embellishments in this kit are gorgeous!  

Emma did a photo shoot with Cole the other day and got some great pictures of her little brother.  I'm thrilled with them!

Cole being a typical "ham", had a few cute smiles and the rest, well, were Cole being Cole.  I just had to scrapbook these as these are the memories that we need to hold close to our heart.

Hello Paper Pumpkin

My mom was so sweet and mailed me my February Paper Pumpkin kit as a wonderful surprise.  (Thank you again mom!)  I LOVE the circle stamps that come in this kit.  They are CA-UTE!  Polka Dots and stripes but simple, and clean!

I wanted to make some cards for some friends that hopefully will be joining me in some online stamping soon....details to come!  I love how all these elements came together!  Now, I know those that aren't Paper Pumpkin subscribers (why aren't you....sorry:) you can use any circle image to create this card.

The spirals in the Occassions catalogue might make a cute card.  Or, you could stamp a background stamp and then just punch it out with a circle punch or the framelits:)  Do you have any other suggestions?  

To create the "random" linen thread I just attach a piece of sticky strip to the back of the "hello" and then stick it down in loops.  You can sortof "fruff" it after to position it but I do try and keep the random look.

I also did the card using the Crisp Canteloupe, Crumb Cake and Gold combo.  Rather than the ruffle ribbon (don't have that one:) I used the Calypso Coral chevron ribbon and folded it in half.  Which one do you prefer?

Modern Medley Thank You

Guess what?  It's DOWNLOAD DAY!!!  I have been LOVING the downloads lately!  I usually do an album for every six months, but I'm already up to 86 pages for 2014....hmmmm, might need to make some smaller books:)  Have you checked out the downloads lately?  They are rockin!!!  LOVE the vintage one from last week.....you'll see a page in the near future:)

Today's card isn't in my "normal" colour spectrum.  I do struggle using colours sometimes, neutrals are my comfort zone.  BUT I do like the splash of colour on this one!  Strawberry Slush is fun and bright and matches so well with the sparkle of the Gold Sequin Trim.

I thought I'd point out the trim poking out of the Vanilla layer and the greeting.  Fun way to use the trim, eh?

MDS Challenge - Frame It

Happy Monday to you!  Hope you're having a great weekend!  Ours (well some of us) is a little extended!  I've had the pleasure of our first house guests this weekend....fellow Canadian that moved Down Under...Nicole and her sweet son Graham.  They are here until Tuesday so Mark is wagging (that means skipping) school today to spend it with Graham:)  ANYHOW....back to the challenge!  Kimberly picked a fun one - Frame It with a TWIST!!!  Don't use the frame for the photo, use it somehow else on your page.

As you can see, I used three frames....well, two frames and a square with stitching to highlight some text.  Cute, eh?  I love this idea and am so grateful for Kimberly's challenge!

Happy Birthday Marelle!

G'Day Mate!  Feeling rather chipper around here today!  It's been a great start to the weekend....hope it has for you too!  I had the pleasure of going out with some new and "old" friends (old has to be used lightly as I've just met these wonderful ladies....) for dinner the other night.

I made this card for my new friend Marelle.  Teneale was so right in saying she is just super lovely.  I had fun using the music note paper.  I used the sewing machine on this card too... so happy that it was left for me to use!  

I think my favourite part of this card might be the smidge of Modern Medley DSP that peeks behind the Very Vanilla on the top layer:)  Doesn't take much to entertain me, does it:)

pssst.....

What a fun greeting!!!  I love this stamp from the Happy Watercolour stamp set.  It can be for ANYTHING...happy birthday, thank you, I love you, just because....the list goes on.  I think I need this set just for this greeting and the splotch:)

I love how all the elements came together on this card.  I literally used scaps that were on my desk..papers included.  Sometimes that's a fun way to challenge yourself and put together a card.

I didn't originally think that this paper could be linked with these "vintagey" elements, but I think it all sort of "goes".  What do you think?

Nature's Hello Take Two

Howdy! Hope your having a great day!  I have to say that Cole has been having some "down" days...meaning he wants to stay home, snuggle, craft, read, build Lego.... and that means I've had some time to craft!  But in SMALL increments.  So you may notice that a lot of my cards are pretty quick and reproducable lately.  These can sometimes be the best ones, right?

I'm not sure why I haven't been using this AMAZING colour more often!  I love Pistachio Pudding.  It's such a soft and beautiful colour that matches well with Crumb Cake and Smoky Slate.  This card I used Crumb Cake, but I think I may have to do a black, gray and Pistachio in the near future:)  What do you think?

Happiness is HERE

We had a great time last weekend on a treetop adventure not far from home.  I think Mark loved it the most although it was a big hit with everyone!  I find it easy to scrapbook pages when I know how much much kids enjoyed something!

For this page I wanted to challenge myself to NOT use a neutral background.  Lately I've been finding myself using white page so I stepped out of my comfort zone.... although I did lighten the opacitiy of the DSP:)

Rhino Hi

This sweet stamp set isn't one that I "had to have" until of course Nathan's year two class is called the Year Two Rhinos.  I'm not sure this card is my favourite card I've ever made, but in real life it's pretty cute:)

Nathan's teacher has been sick so I thought this would be a cute card he could give her.  There isn't anything really tricky on the card.  I cut the rhino out, did it twice and popped up his head.  The grass was just cut using the circle framelit and then trimming it with scissors.

What I like best is the stitched on Bakers Twine and button.  Cute, eh:) Well, I hope your day is full of sunshine!  Thanks for stopping by!

Not often, but every once in a while I feel the urge to stamp a little "romantic" or "vintage".  I love it when I do and am usually thrilled with my results, not sure why I don't do it more often:)

If you haven't seen the banner kit from the Sale-a-bration brochure it's AMAZING!  I love the canvas pieces for my cards.  They add great texture, are fun to stamp on and can be sponged as well.  Beautiful!

This card was super easy to put together!  I love all the details and textures on this card...hope you do too!

MDS Challenge - Polariods and Filmstrips

Happy Monday to you!  I hope you're weekend has been full of family, fun and adventure.  Today's challenge is one that's on trend....polariods and filmstrips and cameras.  Can you use a polariod, filmstrip or camera on your creations?

I used the freeform tool to create the flash background behind the camera and polariods.  I love the simplicity of the page and of the images.  I've included a PDF on my page as well for you that outlines some tips and tricks I used to create this page.

I added a punched rectangle behind the filmstrips so you don't see the photo in the holes of the strips.  A small detail but one that I think makes a difference:)  Thanks so much for stopping by today!

What a great weekend!  We went on a treetop adventure this weekend... well, that's a bit of a lie.  One of us had to stay on the ground (that was me....) but Cole, Nathan, Emma, Mark, Adam, and the Scott Family had a ton of fun way up high and I've got the pictures to prove it:)  I'll share them on MDS pages in the near future:)

You may recognize this layout from a card I did a few weeks back.  I just switched up the colour combination and DSP and voila...a new card!  I think I like the Coastal Cabana, Black and White one better, but this one is still fresh and fun:)

I love the sweet little heart that comes in the Word Bubbles set....isn't it cute!  Just adds a little something:)  Hate to keep it short today but have to get some cooking started so I can enjoy the day:)  Thank YOU so much for stopping by today!

Can't stop smiling....

when I think of YOU!  This saying could be used for so many of you!  I will admit lately I have enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee (yes, I've figured out some coffee here that I love!) on the hammock and just think about how grateful I am for my life, my friends and my family!  

This card was a FUN colour combination and not one I would have thought of before checking out this year's Sale-a-bration papers.  I love the Summer Starfruit and Coastal Cabana combo....YUMMY!!!!  Yes, that's right!!!  Try it, I dare you!

I have to be honest, the bottom of the card (the layered DSP and cardstock roughed up edges) are there because I dropped an ink pad on the card front:)  BUT I'm happy with the final look of the card... what do you think?

Can you think of anyone you could use this greeting for?  It's in the Love you to the Moon set and I LOVE all the stamps..... you'll see more of them!
