Adam and I don't talk stamping or house stuff very often. Both of these departments are really left for me to deal with. But the other night Adam "trespassed" into my craft room (can you tell the temperature of the discussion?) and asked why I was working so hard on Halloween projects. So of course I simply responded with, "Because it's right around the corner and such a GREAT holiday!" He was surprised to hear me say that two months is right around the corner. And I followed with, well, it's not that close BUT I need to start decorating at the beginning of September. He truthfully doesn't care and our discussion was in fun, but then I got to thinking, am I crazy, is this too early???? My reasoning is it's nice to have on
display for all of you to see and touch and get ideas from now so you have plenty of time to create and make! (OK, that and I LOVE Halloween!!!) So, if you have a minute today to leave me a comment, let me know when you think I can start pulling out my INSIDE Halloween decor!!! I will mail off a series of 5 cards to someone that leaves a post between now and Monday on this post.
Now, onto why you are here...today's HALLOWEEN project! I have a bunch of jars from IKEA that I wasn't sure what to do with. After staring at it for quite some time, this is what I came up with. I used the raw Gray vinyl and ran it through the Big Shot using the Lattice Die. I used 3 1/2 of them to cover this jar. After applying the vinyl, I added the 5/8 Black Grosgrain. I wanted a bit more "colour" so I put a one inch strip of Perfect Plum cardstock on the inside of the jar. Then of course it needed a tag! I had to use the Graveyard Gala stamp set that I just LOVE!!!! But instead of using the information for an invitation, I covered this up with the Halloween Rub On done one DSP and then punched out with the Wide Oval and mounted on a 1 3/4 inch circle. This was then popped up on the stamped image. The tag was just cut out by hand, I attached an eyelet, fed the ribbon through and VOILA!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great Friday!!!!

Love the way you used the lattice! So creative!

I know it's past Monday, but I have been in Canada (your neck of the woods!) on a business trip and just returned back to the real working world. :)
In response to your post, the first thing I did when I came home from Canada was head to the stores to buy fall/Halloween decor. :) Nothing was quite on sale yet since it was still only August, but I'm getting started anyway. I love getting ideas this early so that if I want to make my own decor, I have time to do it.
You go ahead and pull out your fall/Halloween stuff any time now. September is the month fall starts, so it's safe to start putting out your decor any time you want. :) Cheers!

Ok, now I have to buy some of the vinyl because I have the Lattice die and I love what you've done to the jar!!
You are Definitly Not too early for Halloween projects! (we need to order things and here on in Truro, NS it takes 2 weeks for things to arrive!) And I consider Halloween an 'autumn event' so any time after Labour Day is fine.
Although I'm not a big Halloween fan, I am an UBER big Christmas fan, and can't wait to see what you will come up with for that! (and it's never too early for Christmas in my books!)
Cheers

Not that I agree with this, but there's a house in our neighborhood that has their Hallowe'en decor outside ALL YEAR! Granted, they're a little crazy...LOL. I think inside stuff could come out anytime after Labor Day - heck, we're crafters! Who wants all the work out for only a couple weeks; what a waste! And YES, your projects need to be out there super early so we can all be inspired! THANKS!

I love Halloween even if it isn't celebrated over here, and my daughter has her birthday on October 31st. But I lived in Tucson for a while and bought loads of Halloween decorations and I love taking them out of the box and put them up in the first week of October.
I have a lot of those IKEA containers and I use them to store my buttons in them by color and the taller ones to store my ribbons by color. I like what you did with yours.

Hi Heather,
I just love fall and halloween!! I can not wait until the kids get back to school and the nights get cooler because then I know that the time has come to decorate for the season!! I have tons of halloween decorations... and will be adding some more that are inspired by you and my friend Anne...so I usually can not wait to put them up!! Fall decorations in September then add halloween towards the end of the month! Thats my 2 cents worth.
P.S Awesome jars! Love your blog!

Who says you ever have to put it up! I think anytime you're ready to look at it is the right time! Very cute idea.

Heather!
I think that whenever you are ready to decorate with Hallowe'en is the perfect time. You are expecting around that time, and preparation is absolutely everything! I think its great that you are really into Hallowe'en and want to show things off! That's your job, and its what you love! So go for it, whenever you're ready!!!

The first day of Fall is Sept. 22nd so anytime after that. You're right though, that you need to have these projects done and on display to help inspire us. I love what you did with the jar, it looks amazing.

I am Crazy For CHristmas over halloween, I would love to put my tree up in September, but my husband insists not brfore the last weekend of November. I think if it makes you happy and helps you customers with maing thier projects go for it.

It's never too early! I started Halloween stuff in July! Even if was scrapbook pages - I still had fun with it - besides, the kids love it and that's what it's all about:)

What a GREAT idea. Love it. And yes...you have to start decorating early, so you have lots of time to enjoy your creative projects.
Posted by: Gladys Rienks | August 29, 2009 at 10:31 AM
Of course you can decorate any time you want!! The earlier the better as we all know we have LOTS and LOTS of decorations that we want to enjoy for longer than a month. As ALWAYS your projects are awesome. LeeLa

Cute ideas! I don't particularly LOVE Halloween, but I enjoy it. I will start making thing now (just like I'm making Christmas things!!) but not display them until mid- Sept. Thanks for all the great ideas. Keep them coming!

Halloween is one of my favorites. You can craft Halloween anytime. As fas as decorating try this. Around the 20th of September or so start brining out little things and continue this day after day and then soon you will be all done and decorated and most likely noone will even realize you have been doing this for a month. It really helps if the weather starts to get cooler earlier.

If you want to decorate in September, go for it and make it worthwhile! Fall, Halloween, it all goes together.
Posted by: Betty-Ann | August 29, 2009 at 08:42 AM
I think Oct 1st is the time to decorate, but crafting the decorations can happen any time. I like to decorate for fall in Sept, then make slight changes in Oct to change it to Halloween.

I don't feel its too early.. by the time you bring it all out.. depending on how drastic you get, its time to put it all away again! So I say put it up now since your lil one is due around that time you won't feel like doing anything as it starts getting closer..
Have fun! Love your jar!
Posted by: Christine | August 29, 2009 at 03:31 AM
Halloween is my favorite holiday also. I think it's safe to start bringing out little home decor items in the later half of September. And then on October 1st, go whole hog and decorate the entire house - inside and out!
Posted by: Sheryl Kincaid | August 29, 2009 at 02:43 AM
Around Oct. 1st is what I think....September feels a little too early. I love, love, love your jars! Doggone it! Now I have to add this halloween set to my order. Thanks for the super cute ideas!
Posted by: Elaine | August 29, 2009 at 01:54 AM
I don't think that it is too early at all! It is just around the corner and will be here before we know it!! I love the jar, too cute! Thanks for sharing all of your projects with us!

October 1st! If you have it up earlier, people will get tired of seeing it (yes, even if it's your awesome creations), and you might be ready to get rid of the stuff before Halloween!
We put up our Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving - we're empty nesters and that's when all the kids can come help. Because it's STILL a family thing to put it up together, even if they're grown up!!
October 1st - no earlier! But go ahead and make things now! Oh, I see you already did that! Grin!!

Hey it's never the wrong time for Halloween Stuff! :) I LOVE IT!! If I could I would have it up all year ... That said I usually start decorating the inside around Oct. 1st...
Posted by: Julie | August 28, 2009 at 09:17 PM
If all the stores can already decorate for Hallowe'en why can't you?! It is fun to have an excuse to act like a kid again! Your project is great and I look forward to seeing more of them.
Posted by: Susan | August 28, 2009 at 09:08 PM
Okay Heather. All I can say is that you inspire me. I thought my Halloween decorating days were over but when I see what you come up with, my fingers get itchy. I think Oct. 1st is the time to drag out the cobwebs, etc. In your special situation, it is best to be prepared ahead!!
Posted by: Glenna Faulkner | August 28, 2009 at 08:56 PM
once school starts then that is the indicator that fall is in the air. As soon as Labor day is over, I begin to don my fall gear and begin planning Halloween costumes and fun. So you go girl and keep us in Holiday ideas.

I think Halloween decorations are so much fun. It's not too early to decorate. I say, decorate away. I love that you are doing Halloween things now--gives me great ideas for projects to start now to have done by October.
Thanks for you fabulous projects!

Great jar! The lattice vinyl was a fabulous idea. It's never too early to get ready for a holiday. Afterall, I'm already seeing Christmas items in the stores. Getting ready in advance I believe is a woman's thing, men just don't understand :>) Keept those holiday ideas coming.
Posted by: Karen Moody | August 28, 2009 at 08:22 PM
I LOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE Halloween, so bring on the projects!!! I usually start to decorate the inside of my house on October 1st and it takes me about a week. I'm kind of a fanatic though...every little nook and cranny is 'halloweened'. My husband complains that he can't even have a bowl of cereal because the counters are covered with decorations!!! DECORATE AND CREATE TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!
Posted by: Allison | August 28, 2009 at 07:30 PM
Love the project...it is not to early...I love getting project ideas 1-2 months in advance so you can plan to make something. In addition, since you are expecting a lo soon it is never to early to enjoy one of your fave holidays. Men can be just as confusing as women, although they would never admit to it.
Posted by: Katie B. | August 28, 2009 at 07:23 PM
First of all, I have to say that I love your idea for using the lattice die to cut vinyl for a Halloween application! It is super cute! Second, when the new catty came out, I started stamping Halloween and Christmas, which was still 6 months out! Was it too early? No! Not in my opinion! In fact, I offer one card/project to preferred hostesses from my sample board (her choice), and it is my Halloween and Christmas projects/cards that go first! If I had my way, I would decorate for Halloween when school starts, which is August for Alabama (US)! I suggest that you start decorating NOW, and then I can too!! Thanks for all the inspiration!
Posted by: Leslie Jones | August 28, 2009 at 07:13 PM
I admit- when I was at Costco last week and my children asked "why is there Christmas stuff out already?" I was actually a bit angry that Costco was invading summer with Christmas when we weren't even back to school yet!! However when it comes to getting Stampin' creations ready for workshops and seasons that are 2-4 months out I think it's NECESSARY!!! I was working on Christmas cards in July and August- as a demonstrator you have to works months ahead of your customers so they have time to decide what they want to do and have time to buy the necessary product etc... so I say it's A- OKAY!!!!

I don't think it's too early for Halloween. I think that Halloween is one of those "forgotten" holidays here today and gone tomorrow, so the longer we can decorate and celebrate the better. Plus you have a baby coming in a couple of months so you need to get it done now right?
Ruth
PS-Thanks for posting the picture of my little Logan. He loves stamping and was tickled to see his picture on your blog.

I start putting up our Christmas decorations the first week of November and I always have the lights up outside but not turned on till the last week of November, so why can't we start getting ready for Halloween the first of September.

I'm presently trying to get a head start on Christmas projects so I certainly don't think it's too early for Halloween!! It's also starting to feel like "fall" is in the air in Southern Ontario!

Halloween is my favorite Holiday! I have already put out my pumpkins. I hope to have all my decor out by September 1st. It is NOT too early and I LOVE ALL your designs so far. Tell hubby to quietly and quickly step away from the craft room and no one will get hurt! Just joking! Have a great weekend!

Hello Heather,
I always like to put out "I call it fall decorations' around my birthday the last week of September. I say the sooner the better, and if you craft new ideas, you want to enjoy them as long as possible. Keep up the great work. you are a very taleneted lady.

We attend a Pumpkin Festival every year at the end of September and as soon as I get home all Halloween decorations go up - inside and out. So keep up the good work and I think i just might be motivated by you to start on a few Halloween projects myself this weekend.
Posted by: Kim | August 28, 2009 at 03:17 PM
In my house, Halloween is a favorite time. I put out my inside decorations at beginning of September. For outside, I gradually put out the Fall stuff at beginning of October and then start to add the Halloween stuff by middle of October and of course Pumpkins come last.
You're doing a great job...keep it up!
Posted by: Darlean Fitzgerald | August 28, 2009 at 02:54 PM
Personally, I LOVE to see your projects. It's not too early to start preparing! I don't begin to put out my Halloween decor until LATE September or early October...that is just me, tho...If you LOVE Halloween like you say you do then by all means put it up and enjoy it:)))
Posted by: Angie Britt | August 28, 2009 at 02:53 PM
I laughed out loud over the comments about getting out the decorations after Thanksgiving - until I realized you mean YOUR Canadian Thanksgiving - duh! lol... I usually put my stuff out on the first day of fall, although with the cool weather that might be earlier. I do agree that as a demonstrator you need your things out earlier to allow others to order what they need to create their own masterpieces!
Posted by: Julie | August 28, 2009 at 02:53 PM
No mattter the time of year, I love to see your holiday ideas. Personally I like to wait until after Thanksgiving to pull out the Halloween decorations.
Posted by: Heather | August 28, 2009 at 02:46 PM
Keep the great ideas coming. I love to see what you create. I was looking for some clever Halloween ideas the other day and MY husband said, "check out your favorite site, see what she has created " (meaning you!).

Hey Heather,
I would personaly be disapointed if I went to yor house and didn't see the Halloween nut in you! I love this about you. Keep creating and inspiring us all.

Halloween is my most favorite of favorite holidays so I never think it is too early to start making Halloween anything. I have already started making cards and my decorations will come out on September 1st. I have large haunted houses to display in my foyer and they stay up for almost 6 months before I take them down. Then there are the candles and smaller haunted house decoration for the fireplace mantel and the pumpkins in all shapes and sizes and also dishes for the kitchen and towels for the bathroom. To say nothing of what goes outside. And then there are the cookies I bake and decorate. Sooo, I guess you know my answer. It is never too early to decorate for Halloween and every room and every available space is prime Halloween territory.

Wait its too early?? SO why are there all these decortions on sale already??? I am gonna start right when my kids start on the 9th! I also have some projects already started :) I also want to for the first time EVER have a Halloween Party for my kids so I've had Halloween on my mind already! So tell your hubby never to early for a creative mind! lol :)(((HUGS))

I love Halloween too, but I don't usually decorate like I'd like. My husband's very tight with our money and he tends to feel it's unnecessary to have those types of things to display. We have a small entry table I'd love to put some stuff on, but he likes it clean and empty. So I say go for it! Besides, we need time to order any supplies, stamps, etc. that you're using so we can have the same cool stuff to display too.

We are crazy for Halloween in our house! For the last 10 years we have decorated our house inside & out. I like to start on October 1st but my husband likes to decorate on the 31st (we have many happy "discussions" about this). Since our daughter came into the picture (now 3 yrs old)we have even more fun. I don't think you can start too early so go for it!
