Garden Whimsy

Here is another card using the Garden Whimsy stamp set and the Cutie Pie paper.  The flower is made using the scallop circle punch.  I simply drew a circle about 1/2 in the middle of the flower and then cut from each scallop to the center making sure to not have a petal fall off!  By snipping these I ended up with the look of individual petals.  I then punched out a 3/4 circle out of the textured Wild Wasabi Cardstock(hard to tell in the picture that it's textured) and put on a button from Fresh Favourites.

Baroque Motifs....for Christmas???

So, first I have to appologize that this picture may not be the best quality as I like to take my card shots during the day but I HAD to post this card tonight for my friend, Christie!  I think I am actually going to dedicate, and maybe even mail this card to Christie for Christmas (SMILE!!!)   Thanks for a great Stampers 6 class tonight ladies!  Looking forward to our next club!

Great Colour Combo

Since cracking open my package of Cutie Pie scrapbook paper, I have to say I'm loving the colours, Bashful Blue, Purely Pomegranate, Wild Wasabi and a bit of So Saffron thrown in!  On top of this using Garden Whimsy....YUM!!!!

This little lady bug is really cute from the Garden Whimsy set.  I first stamped it in black and then on a scrap piece of white cs, I stamped it in the Pomegranate, cut it out and layered it. 

I think this'll be one of the cards we make in the Garden Whimsy preorder class.  I've still got spaces left if you are interested in this class on Thursday, August 23rd.

On a family note, here is a recent photo of Nathan.  Some of you have been asking how the little munchkin is doing....well, he isn't so little anymore!!!

 

Quick Christmas Layout

We are officially less than 5 months until Christmas!  I LOVE the holidays and am really hoping to be prepared and ready for it early this year....no running around, no stamping on Christmas Eve and no belated "I'll finish it for you really soon" gifts for my mom!!!  So, I thought I'd make an easy scrapbook layout using the new Dots and Dashes Scrapbook paper.

My thoughts are that I'll have a couple pictures of each child on the small squares and then a few group shots on the red rectangles.  I'll do some journaling on the bottom right page and be done!

Garden Whimsy

How cute is this set?  I love the butterfly and love how you pop it out as well.  Now, I can't take credit for today's cards, yes I made them BUT I totally CASED them (which means copied with some slight modifications). 

This card was cased from Taylor at Tayloredexpressions.  She is a super talented and inspiring stamper.  As soon as I saw this card I loved it and was inspired even more because she used the new In Colour Groovy Guave, which I'm struggling a bit with right now.  This card is made only using the set Garden Whimsy and may be one of the cards we do in the preorder class for Garden Whimsy.

The butterfly is stamped on the white paper and then again on a scrap of white paper.  I simply cut out the wings and then put adhesive on the inside of the wings and folded them up.

This second card I found on Splitcoaststampers.  I have not been visiting there much lately but it is definately worth checking out the cards made with Garden Whimsy as there are SO many nice ones!!!  This card I modified by this card on Splitcoast.  It uses the new scrapbook paper Cutie Pie (LOVE IT!)

Stamp-a-ma-what??? Stamp-a-ma-jig!

   OK, so I want to share with you the world's greatest tool....ok, pretty close to the greatest!  I have owned my stamp-a-ma-jig for years now and have NEVER pulled it out of the box because it seemed like so much work and I like to think I'm pretty good at 'eye-balling'(yes, that's the verb 'to eyeball'!)  Anyhow, I've put together a little tutorial on how to line things up PERFECTLY with a stamp-a-ma-jig!!!

Step #1: Gather your supplies - Stamp-a-ma-jig, stamps, imaging sheet (comes with the Stamp-a-ma-jig), cardstock and ink.

Step #2: Line up the imaging sheet in the corner of the SAMJ(that'll be my lingo for Stamp-a-ma-jig).  Make sure that it fits in snug and that the SAMJ sits flat.

Step #3: Ink up your stamp using any colour of classic ink (don't use Basic Black, Brown or Gray or you will stain your image sheet).  Stamp this image on your image sheet by lining up the stamp in the corner of the SAMJ as shown.

Step #4: When you take your stamp off of the image sheet you should see a stamped image as shown here.

Step #5: Take the imaging sheet and place it on top of your cardstock EXACTLY where you want your final imae to appear.  I put my 'j' slightly off center in this tag I stamped earlier.

Step #6: Now carefully line up your SAMJ with the corner of the imaging sheet.  If you move the sheet you won't get your image exactly where you want it to be.  Remove the imaging sheet without moving the SAMJ and then stamp image by lining up your stamp right in the corner of the SAMJ.

Step #7: Voila, your image is stamped!  Wipe off the imaging sheet with a Kleenex and then start again, as I have done here with the letter 'o'.

Step #8: Here is a sample of what a final image that has been SAMJed (yet another verb) could look like!  As much as I show it using 8 steps it really is quick and easy!  I'm not sure why I haven't been using this for the last 3+ years!!! 

The SAMJ is perfect for lining up letters for titles, 2 step stamping images, the santa hat when using the All in the Family stamp set, stamping on a greeting straight....the list is endless!  I'll show you the finished product using this tag a little later (gotta get some candy first for the jar!)

On another note, I just wanted to give you an update on the voles.  Mommy Vole moved the babies after we found the nest the other day and today when Adam was moving more wood for the siding we refound the nest and this is what they are looking like now:

A vole is in the family of moles but is basically a smaller version.  The Mommy Vole is just a bit bigger than a mouse.  Right now their eyes are still shut but are growing some fur. 

I'm up for the challenge....

I can't get over how busy life is right now, but I thrive under pressure and enjoy it because for some strange reason it always manages to get done!  I want to thank all my 'girls' that came to my tween camp these past two days!  I had so much fun with all of you (but was exhausted at the end!!)  I hope you liked your projects and would LOVE to post a sample of a card you made at home with the TO GO kit on my blog if you want to send me any pictures!!!

Thank you also to all the demos at the quarterly meeting last night!  I had so much fun (and not just cause I got lucky and won a prize!)  Tonight's post is dedicated to all that attended last night and saw my inspiration in person.  I won a prize last night and as a thank you Alicia gave me a really cute sleeper set for Nathan and while giving it to me said, "I'd like to see a card made from this!"  So, what did I go home and do last night.....

So, here is the super cute pattern on the sleeper top.  So of course even before Alicia said anything the first thing that popped into my mind was Bundle of Joy Giraffe!  Too cute!  So, this is the card I made with this sleeper in mind:

Colours: Kraft, Close to Cocoa, Brocade Blue

Others: markers, old scrapbook paper, watercolour wonder crayons, aqua painter, white gel pen, bleach

What I did for this card is stamp the images using Basic Brown ink on the coloured cardstock.  I then coloured the images in using bleach, yup bleach and let it dry overnight(I was too lazy to go downstairs to get my heat gun so I went to bed!)  This morning I coloured all the images in using the Watercolour Wonder Crayons and the Aqua Painter.  I retraced over the lines on the giraffe so it stood out a bit more then pieced my card together. 

For the giraffe's hair I cut a length of the gingham ribbon and then cut the one edge off.  By doing this it enabled me to fray the ribbon lengthwise.  I kept pulling out the threads and then attached it to my card using crystal effects.

Very Cool Box

My friend Alicia knows that I LOVE folding, cutting, scoring and making boxes!!!  So she was given this box as a swap and thought of me so I modified the pattern by adding a flap that is attached to the box and have created a bunch of these!  For any demos checking out my blog this is our make and take for the meeting tomorrow night!  For any of my customers that are totally intrigued we will be making this box in our preorder class for August!

Laura and I did some stamping and munching today (thanks for a fun time!) and we made a couple of these boxes this afternoon!  They are fairly quick and easy.  It takes only one sheet of paper and NO adhesive to hold it shut!!!

This box is made using Baroque Motifs, Soft Sky and River Rock and of course Ice Brads (don't you just love them!)

This box is made with Ahoy Matey!  Love this set!  I wheeled the background using the corresponding wheel.  I coloued in the pirate using blender pens and also some watercolour crayons.  I added a few gold brads and a 'red ruby' to the treasure chest.  The treasure chest actually holds the box closed.

This box is made with none othere than In the Wild!  It uses Blue Bayou paper and Not Quite Navy.  Instead of using a 'paper latch', I tied this box shut using the double stitched ribbon(don't you love it?!?)

This last sample box is done with Purely Pomegranate and the Pick a Petal set.  Laura and I decided that you need to layer your paper for the 'latch' because the white cardstock isn't quite thick enough.

On a non stamping note, check out what we found in our garage yesterday!  Adam was cleaning out the wood getting ready to prep for the continuation of our renovation and this what we found:

A family of voles!  Aren't they tiny and somewhat cute?  We saw the mom and the next day when we came to check on them she had moved them elsewhere.

All in the Family

Emma so kindly made the sample for the blog today!  She got crafty last night before dinner and made place cards for our family (including my nephew!)  I was impressed and thought they turned our really cute!

Our Family

How CUTE is this set????  This was my second attempt at making this family frame that I am going to set on the table at our front door.  The first one I didn't use a Stamp-a-ma-jig for the letters but I got smarter and pulled it out the second time!

To make this picture the first thing I did was stamp the people.   When you get this stamp set, mount the stamps on the bottom of your blocks so you can easily line them up.  When you stamp the people, stamp from the feet up.  I'm sure this isn't the only way to do it but this worked really well for me.   After stamping all the people, I then put a scrap piece of paper on top of my images and traced all the people and cut this out.  I used this so I could mask to get the name SUMMERS behind the people.  I did draw a pencil line on the white cardstock so the people were lined up as well as the letters for SUMMERS.  I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the letters.  Then I blender penned my people, added some shadows and embellishments, layerd the paper and put it in the frame.  I'm quite excited about this project....LOVING the set!

Emma stamped with me as well today and this is what she created using the same stamp set.  She did this completely all on her own and even extended the arms with the black marker when needed!

BIG on Christmas!

How much do you love this set???  I know it's only July BUT I had to play with this set once it showed up!  So I've included in this post about 4 samples of this set all on the Sizzix Tag Die Cut.

The first tag is stamped in Basic Black on Old Olive.  I then coloured in the word Happy using the Old Olive marker.  I stamped the greeting again on white cardstock and cut out the tree, blender penned it and popped it up.  The white gel pen stitching is just done free hand around the edge.

The second tag is done on Brocade Blue paper with white snowflakes stamped on using White Craft Ink.  The image was stamped on Soft Sky and the letters cut out and the snowman I stamped on white then cut him out and coloured him in.  I then attached the snowman to the small red tag and added some hodgepodge!  I'd be really excited to put this on a Christmas gift!!!

The Noel tag is quick and simple and kids would ROCK at making tags on white with their own markers.  The image is stamped in Basic Black, coloured in, faux stitching added, a button attached and ribbon scraps.  Quick and easy!!!

I wanted to include a sample of how you can also use the tags on a card front.  It was a quick layout for using the tag.  Add a horizontal strip, a few other stamped images and VOILA you have a card!!!  LOVE the colours of this one....Soft Sky and River Rock.  I bleached the word SNOW after embossing it in Dark Brown Embossing powder.  I have bleach in one of my aqua painters coloured it in and then went over where I had bleached using the SU markers.  This allows you to see the true colours on coloured cardstock!

Stationary Set

First question....is it stationery OR stationary???  I forget and I guess am too lazy to check it out!  Good thing I teach kindergarten as it isn't one of their spelling words!(kidding!) 

So I'll draw names from anyone that has suggestions for the All in the Family stamp set tomorrow morning so check out yesterdays post and feel free to leave an idea behind!

Anyhow, onto the stamping.  This is the stationary set that I made with my Baroque Motifs preorder class.  We made three cards and corresponding envelopes that fit into this holder.  It's a really quick, pretty and easy gift for someone as a little thank you or thinking of you.  I've attached a sample of what type of instructions I include when someone signs up for my class or orders a kit to go if you're unable to attend my workshop.  I've had a few people ask and since I have another preorder class coming up I want to share it with you.  Click on Download stationary_holder.doc the underlined blue link and the file should open on your computer (I've done the document in Word).  The dimensions are on the instructions but I'll also include them here for anyone interested.

I used Very Vanilla Cardstock to make this holder.  Dimensions are 12 x 9 1/2.  The 12 length is then scored at the 6 inch mark so you can fold your folder in half.

Then score 6 1/4 inches from the top and this will create the flaps for the bottom to fold up and hold the cards and envelopes.

Cut your cardstock from the bottom to the score line as you want the flap in two to make folding easier.

Best Set EVER!!!

Today is our anniversary....8 years!!!  Where has the time gone?  I made this card last night for Adam and I have to say that this has got to be THE BEST STAMP SET EVER!!!  I LOVE it!!!!  I am thrilled with how the card turned out and I can only imagine the possibilities for it!  Can't wait to share more!

I stamped "Adam and I" in Basic Black and then just used blender pens and ink pads to colour us in.  I created my own 'scrapbook' paper for behind the main layer.  I made it using Creamy Caramel paper and then I just went through all my stamp drawers and found any word that would work for an anniversary card and stamped them randomly on the background.  Then I sponged the edges of this layer.

I added a bit of shading around the feet of the people both inside and outside of the card.  I did this using the small oval punch.  I punched it out of a scrap piece of paper and then placed the stencil (not the punched out piece - sorry for any confustion) on my image.  I wanted this to be very faint so I blender penned the shadow using River Rock Ink by colouring inside the stencil.

On the inside of the card I stamped our little family.  For those of you that know us well, I coloured them according to our styles and outfits....Emma has her 2 different coloured Crocs on!

Scrappers 6

Well, it's that time again!  I've got my Scrappers 6 club on Monday night so I thought I best start creating some pages.  Although this page uses the Simply Scrappin' Kit from the last catalogue, I thought it was okay to use as there is a new kit, same layout but fresh new colours that my club members could copy exactly and have a different page if they liked it!

Sweet Pea

I was really hoping for a sunny day today so I could take a bunch of photos but since it's raining, you're stuck with just one for today!  This card is made using the level one hostess set, Event Full....I have to say this is just the cutest stamp EVER considering I call my kids sweet pea all the time!  I love it!  A friend of mine is expecting a little baby girl next week so I wanted to make a clean and simple baby card with it.

Baroque Motifs...Quick and Easy!

For those of you that know me, I love punches!!!  I'm not sure I make many cards that don't use some sort of a punch.  This card has the 3/4 inch circle punch and the 2 oval punches.  I can't wait to get my one inch circle punch from SU....it was one of the many new punches on my first order! (I ordered the photo corners punch, 1 inch circle punch, scallop punch and the new star punch!)

Emma's Year End Trip

For this scrapbook page I knew I would want to include a punch of photos on a layout.  When taking the pictures at Pond Mills I also kept this in mind so I didn't take too many pictures close up.  This was a fun trip and I'm glad that I got to join Emma and her wonderful little friends on their adventure!  Because I wanted to write all the names of the kids in her class on the photos, I went with the doodling theme so used the Doodle Alphabet and the Doodle This stamp set.  I have another page for the other side (with the rest of her class on it!) but it isn't quite done so I thought I'd just show the single page layout.  All the photos are 1 7/8 by 1 7/8 except for the 4x6 in the middle.

Baroque....Getting Sick of it yet???

This is a quick and easy card to make.  I think this is what I really love about this set!  It's elegant and not too much thought is needed (or layers....shocking for me!)

This is one of the cards we are making on the Baroque Motifs class night on the 12th (or in your kit!)

Recipe:

Colours: Purely Pomegranate, Basic Black

Stamps: Baroque Motifs

I stamped the 'circle flower' in black on the card first.  Then I stamped the image on another sheet of paper in the pomegranate and cut it out, excluding the dots on the outside.  The black flower is then stamped on another sheet and cut out and popped up from the pomegranate.  If anyone from SU reads this post we could really use a punch for each of these layers as they look so good cut out!!!!

Krafty....Take Two!

I originally saw a card very similar to this on my friend Corinne's (AKA Roxy) blog.  Again it is created using the Kraft paper with some Craft Inks.  I first stamped the largest solid petal from Pick a Petal in white craft ink on my top layer.  (I got the angles using the trick I posted a while back on using the flower from Baroque Motifs to evenly space 6 petals.)  Then using Sky Blue I stamped the Polka Dot Petal on top of the white Craft inked petals so the white shows through.  I stamped the inner circle of the flower in white on Kraft paper, cut it out and then popped them up on the flowers.  I did the faux stitching around the outside of the main image and stamped the greeting Happy Anniversary(from Hugs and Wishes) on the word window punch out.  It's hard to see in this picture but I also stamped using sky blue ink and the polka dot petal stamp on the twill ribbon.  It is faint but looks nice!  My final touch was to pop up the main layer on the Confetti White layer and then roughen up the edges.  Hope you like the subtle and simple colours of this one!

Frog Hunting

Mark has spent many mornings on his "non school" days at Sharon Creek which is about 20 minutes from our house.  Sometimes we go with friends and other times we go solo.  When we are there we hunt for tadpoles, frogs, snakes and turtles.  We have managed to catch all but a turtle....it's lots of fun!

So I of course had to scrap the many moments.  A friend emailed me a sample with a very similar layout using Basic Gray paper but I thought I could create my own using none other than Baroque Motifs.  I stamped the squarish(is that a word!?!) stamp in full strength True Thyme, I stamped off using the same ink and the circular flower image.  Then I used the swirly image and stamped randomly in White Craft ink and on the one edge I used Basic Black to add some definition.  I wanted to dull down the paper a bit so I used my brayer and just rolled it over the paper in many directions using the True Thyme ink.  I am really happy with the final layout of this page and am excited to have so many pictures on one page as well!

A Brag Card

After Matt at Matt Ballard Photography took the BEAUTIFUL pictures of Nathan I had to make a little brag card/book to showcase his photos.  Not sure yet who I am going to to send this to but I am excited to share it.  I'm very excited and again will brag about Matt and encourage you to check out his blog.  For those of you that have asked about his photography, I will forward on information about his packages etc. shortly as he is revamping some of his prices.  I used Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip and Close to Cocoa on this card to match the birth announcements I sent my family.  Stamp sets are I'm Here (my favourite baby set) and Alphadots (now retired).  I hid a few extra pictures behind the last picture using a brad and then I used the tab punch to pull out the photos.  Enjoy!

THEY ARRIVED!!!!  THE CATALOGUES ARE FINALLY HERE!!!  I think that Adam sent out an email yesterday to let you know that the catalogues have arrived so if you are expecting one, have a club order to pick up or would like one, please just give Adam a call and he will make arrangements with you.  I did order some extra so feel free to give him a call!

This is the thank you card I made for my WONDERFUL customers and club members that have preordered a catalogue and are VERY patiently waiting their arrival!!!  I REALLY appreciate your patience and thank you for this!  I will post on my blog the moment that the catalogues arrive and Adam will be home to distribute them for the majority of the week.  Please just fire off an email or give him a call to make arrangements!

To go along with the card I wrote a little poem for my ladies as well!

Feelin' a Bit Krafty!

Quick Update:  I am heading off to the cottage today with the kids.  Adam will be home so if you need anything please just call.  Adam is going to check with Canada Post today, and everyday until my catalogues arrive!!!  If you are in *need* of the catalogue or are in a club please just give him a call as he knows what to do!  I will be on line about every other day so if I can be off any help just fire off an email as the local library has access.  Also, keep checking back on my blog as I've premade my posts for while I am gone!  Have a great week!

I am pleased with how this card turned out as it was a lot of work.  It's difficult to see in this picture the number of steps I used to make this card but I'll try to explain it to you.  I really like Kraft paper and LOVE stamping on it using the Craft Inks.

First I stamped the largest solid petal from Pick a Petal in White Craft Ink on the card.  I reverse masked it meaning I cut out the size I wanted the red wings to be and used this "stencil" and stamped inside of it using the large solid petal.  I did this so in the 'holes' of the lady bug you would see white.  I then stamped the wings on the card using Red Craft Ink.  I probably should have used my stamp-a-ma-jig but I just eye balled it.  Then using masking I stamped the head and the body using Black Craft Ink. 

The Birthday greeting is from Hugs and Wishes (a NEW set as well) stamped in Real Red Craft Ink.  I punched the tag using the 2 large circle punches (see previous entry on how to make this tag).  I drew the line of the lady bug path first then paper pierced it.  The antennae have black brads (thanks Daphne!) and the matching brads are used to hold the Word Window punch outs for decoration. 

"Tween" Camp

I am very excited to be offering some "tween" stamp camps this summer.  In actual fact I'm not even sure if the name Tween is accurate, but Emma insisted this is what we should call it!  I have two dates in July, the 23rd and the 24th.  (UPDATE: 23rd FULL, 24th 5 spots left).  I am running the class at my home from 9:30 to 12 and we will be doing three projects: the coaster scrapbook as shown below, a beaded personalized pen and we'll be stamping on cookies!  I will be providing the snacks (so please indicate any food allergies) and each of the kids will go home with a little bag of goodies that they can use at home to make some projects!  If these days are successful I will be doing it again in August!  Thanks so much for the support already shown for this class!  If you are interested in attending the Tuesday class and your child is 8-12 please email me privately for details and availability at adamsum@yahoo.com

Yes, I gave in and bought the BIA!!!  AND, I love it!!!  I got it from my friend Sheila at Scrappin' Great Deals last week.  This book uses the 3/8 chocolate wire.  I wouldn't want to go any smaller with the wire or make the book any bigger, I think these 4 coasters are the max.  I think that I'll probably use the 5/8 wire the most (and of course mainly in Chocolate!!!)

The Other Tin

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO YOU ALL!!!! I hope you are out enjoying the sunshine with family and friends today!  A quick update to "my girls".  The catalogues still have not arrived and I am anticipating, and hoping, they will be here on Tuesday (as Monday is a holiday).  I am off to the cottage for a week BUT Adam will be home and is going to put the catalogues into everyone's club orders so you can have them in your hot little hands.  I will have some access to the internet (from the local library) so I will be checking emails and making blog posts so when the catalogues are in I will email you to let you know you can swing by and get them.  Also, if you ordered any of my retiring stamp sets they are bagged and ready for you for pick up as well.  Thanks so much!

This card tin is for the other lady that Adam works with.  The tin looks a bit more stunning in person than in this picture as the top half of the tin is scrapbook paper from Perennial Favourites (SU).  The ribbon is Apricot and Tangerine.  Again, this tin was quick and easy to make and filled with cards and dividers.

I like the embellishment on this tin as I dyed the flowers using my reinkers to match this paper.  Also, inside the two flowers check out the NEW Fire Circle Rhinestone Brades from SU!!!!  Don't you LOVE it!?!  They have FIRE and ICE brads that come in 4 colours and three different sizes.  They are very FUN!!!

Inside the tin, I lined the top of it using a piece of 4x7 scrapbook paper and then I simply corner rounded each corner.  The dividers are 4 1/4 x 6 3/4 and each one has a tab on the top attaced with brads.  Tins are so fun and easy to make!  I'd love to hear about your tin creations or uses.  What else have you done with these lunch tins???
